The Core Details of Assassin’s Creed Mirage

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is the next standalone addition to the storied franchise, which is reportedly aiming to do away with the controversial RPG elements of newer AC games and return to the franchise’s roots. Built on a more intimate scale, Mirage will focus on expanding the story of the Hidden Ones, the group that would eventually become the Assassin Brotherhood.

It has long been rumored that the protagonist of Mirage will be Basim Ibn Ishaq, a recurring franchise character that first appeared in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Telling a tale about Basim as a younger man in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad, the story of Mirage will likely give context as to how the Isu god Loki took control of Basim’s physical form, leading to the events of Valhalla. With a similar setting and core tenets of gameplay to much older Assassin’s Creed titles, Mirage is being welcomed by many who yearn for a return to the earlier franchise identity of Asssassin’s Creed.

How Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s Outfit Compares To Other Games

One of the most important pieces of information that came from the official artwork for Assassin’s Creed Mirage’s reveal was the close-up glimpse of the title’s protagonist that it provides. With the title most likely taking place between the years 860-870 CE during the early days of the Islamic Golden Age, Mirage is set to bring fans one of the earliest glimpses at Assassin garb to date.

The lack of complexity to the showcased outfit is one of the most overt factors within the artwork, lacking the flare and complexity of outfits worn by the likes of fan-favorite Assassin Ezio Auditore. Most notably, the outfit appears to lack the iconic Assassin Brotherhood or Hidden Ones sigil that most other outfits possess, further exemplifying the early stages of the organization within the time period in which the game is set.

As well as being fairly basic compared to later outfits, Mirage’s outfit appears to be very reflective of the geographical setting of the game, stylistically speaking. The protagonist, which appears to be Basim due to the striking resemblance between the two characters, is seen in the artwork sporting a covered forehead and scarf, in-keeping with Middle Eastern clothing of the time. It is also of note that the character is depicted wearing a full Assassin hood, which is a welcome return to franchise tradition given how Eivor, Bayek, and Alexios/Kassandra were often seen without a hood.

A classic Assassin’s Creed hidden blade is also on prominent display in the artwork, further stressing the increased focus on more classic assassinations and combat that Mirage is strongly rumored to possess. The Mirage outfit is also almost completely lacking in armor, being far removed from the bracers and pauldron often worn by Ezio. Of course, each outfit worn by different Asssassins often reflects the traditions and cultures of their geographical settings, and it appears that the outfit within Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be no different.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is currently in development.
