For example, Destiny 2’s Vex Mythoclast is a fusion rifle that acts like an auto rifle with zero damage drop-off. Additionally, the alt-fire mode allows it to function like a linear fusion rifle after enough kills with the default mode. This kind of gun design in Destiny 2 makes Vex Mythoclast a versatile option for players who prefer a more flexible play style. Vex Mythoclast may be the most recognizable hybrid gun due to its history in the first installment of Destiny, but the Exotic won’t likely be remembered as well as Revision Zero thanks to its expanded alt-fire design.

Guns Like The QuickSilver Storm Represent New Creative Design For Bungie

However, Vex Mythoclast is now one of a handful of hybrid guns like the Cryosthesia 77K. Like other alt-fire mode guns in Destiny 2, Cryosthesia 77K gains a charged shot after a final blow. This Exotic sidearm boasts a freeze ray alt-fire mode, capable of freezing most and slowing down enemies and making them more vulnerable to damage. Even glancing blows from the charged shot are enough to freeze most enemies and slow opposing Guardians. Still, being unable to craft Cryosthesia 77K makes the gun much more niche compared to Bungie’s latest weapon creation.

Meanwhile, Destiny 2’s Quicksilver Storm is a Lightfall-exclusive Exotic auto rifle with an alt-fire mode that allows it to generate and fire grenades as a grenade launcher. This makes it a formidable weapon at close range, mainly when dealing with groups of enemies. What sets this auto rifle apart as a hybrid weapon is an exotic perk that fires homing rockets at enemies the players hit with the gun’s bullets. That homing missile firing exotic perk helps generate those grenades for its launcher mode and is, indeed, a creative design by Bungie.

Revision Zero Is The Best Example of Hybrid Alt-Fire Guns in Destiny 2

In addition to being immediately craftable, Destiny 2’s Revision Zero is highly customizable, which sets it apart from other alt-fire mode weapons. It has a wide range of parts and traits that can be added to it, allowing players to upgrade its performance and capabilities to suit their needs. Finally, Revision Zero has four catalysts that can be acquired and equipped to further improve its versatility and capabilities. Once earned, Revision Zero’s catalysts offer various benefits, such as increased damage or improved handling, and can be a valuable addition to the weapon.

Alt-fire weapons allow players to adapt to various situations and playstyles in Destiny 2 without limiting their loadout choices. Whether players prefer the versatility of Vex Mythoclast, the crowd-control capabilities of Cryosthesia 77K, or the close-range firepower of Quicksilver Storm, there is an alt-fire weapon to suit every preference. There would be benefits from doubling down on alt-fire guns and expanding the idea to Destiny 2’s Legendary weapons down the road, but fans will have to wait and see.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
